James Harvey McGowin, age 77, of Ulman, died Thursday, May 8, 2008, at his home. He was born in Bagnell on January 31, 1931, a son of the late Joshua and Frata (Griggs) McGowin. On January 1, 1950, at Bagnell Baptist Church, he was married to Evelyn Jean Reed, who survives at the home.
James began his ministry at Brumley Christian Church. He then ministered at Mt. Pleasant Christian Church and Ulman Christian Church. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, woodworking and spending time with his family.
Others who survive him include: one daughter, Joy Thomas and husband Lowell of Ulman; one son, James H. McGowin and wife Susan of Columbia; two grandchildren, Jodi Veasman and Jonna Massie, both of Ulman; four great grandchildren, Gretchyne Hawk, Allyson Donley, Olivia Massie and Jacob Veasman; two sisters, Kathryn Ryan and Nellie McGraw and one brother, Joshua McGowin, Jr.
Two brothers, Buck and Danny L. McGowin, also preceded him in death.
Visitation will be from 2-3 p.m. on Sunday, May 11, with services immediately following at 3:00 p.m. at the Ulman Christian Church. Bro. Gene Edwards, Bro. Ralph Byrd and Bro. Charlie Caldwell will officiate. Interment will be in Riley-Lamm Cemetery near Lake Ozark.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Ulman Christian Church.
