September 19, 1924 – March 1, 2020
James Mote, age 95, of Iberia, passed away on Sunday, March 1, 2020, at Miller County Care and Rehabilitation Center in Tuscumbia. He was born near Decatur, Texas, on September 19, 1924, son of the late Carroll Homer and Edith May (Williamson) Mote. On June 24, 1951, in Pulaski County, James married Wanda Lee Kelsay, who survives.
James honorably served in the United States Army with the 361 Engineer Construction unit during WWII. He was a member of the American Legion Post 105, Masonic Lodge, Postmaster Association, and served as president on the Iberia School Board. He was a member of the Hickory Point Baptist Church where he served as Deacon.
James graduated from Oklahoma State. After college he taught vocational agriculture at both Halfway, MO. and Iberia R-V School and later was employed as postmaster at Iberia for 25 years. He enjoyed his farming life, horse-riding and raising turkey, hogs, and cattle on his rural farm in the Miller County area.
In addition to his loving wife, Wanda Mote, he is also survived by four sons, Sherrill Mote (Vicki), Dewayne Mote (Kathy), Lyndon Mote (Cindy), and Glen Mote (Wynnette) all of Iberia; eight grandchildren, Ilana Morgan, Josiah Mote, Isaac Mote, Seth Mote, Rachel Mote, Heather Mote, Austin Mote, and Brianna Mote; and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 3 p.m., with services immediately following at 3 p.m., on Thursday, March 5, at Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia with Bro. Brian Duncan officiating. Interment with military honors will be held at Hickory Point Cemetery near Iberia.
