October 20, 1950 – January 31, 2025
James Leroy Owens, affectionately referred to as Leroy, age 74, of Iberia passed away along with his wife, Brenda Owens, on Friday, January 31, 2025, due to injuries sustained in a car accident.
He was born in Macks Creek on October 20, 1950, son of the late Bill and Mamie (Ricker) Owens. On June 26, 1975, at Honey Springs Church in Brumley, Leroy was united in marriage to Brenda Humphrey.
Leroy was known as a jack of all trades, who could repair and construct just about anything. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing and mushroom hunting. Leroy was an avid Royals and Kansas City Chiefs' fan. He had an unconditional love for his family, especially for his grandchildren, who were the greatest joys of his life.
He is survived by his daughter, Tonda (Nicholas) Casey; two sons, Yancey (Kathrine) Owens and James "Gregory" Owens; five grandchildren, Sofia Owens, Addalynn Casey, Katelynn Casey, Kaprice Owens, and Noah Owens; numerous brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Brenda and Leroy were blessed to have a host of special loved ones, who they thought of as family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Mamie Owens.
A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. with a Celebration of Life at 11 a.m., on Friday, February 7, at Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Leroy and Brenda Owens Memorial Fund.
