James W. Parkison, age 78, of Iberia, passed away Sunday, October 31, 2010, at his home. He was born in Arkansas, on September 14, 1932, son of the late Walter and Dorothy Jean (Ekins) Parkison. On November 1, 1951, James married Jean Simpson, who survives.

James retired from the Navy after serving for over 20 years. He and his wife were foster parents to several children over the years in both California and Missouri. He enjoyed volunteering for several local charities. He was a member of the Iberia VFW Post 6167 and Iberia Chamber of Commerce. James had a strong religious affiliation in the Iberia area and was a member of the Iberia Baptist Church.

He is also survived by three daughters, Kathy O'Connor of San Diego, California, Lisa Graham and husband Lance of Ulman, and Kimberly Toussaint and husband Patrick of Las Vegas, Nevada; one sister Jonina Buterbaugh of Springfield; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was also preceded in death by two children, Diana Parkison and Jimmy Parkison.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., with services immediately following at 2 p.m., on Saturday, November 6, 2010, at Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia. Rev. Greg McClain will officiate.
