James A. Reenan, age 85, of Crocker, passed away Saturday, October 1, 2011, at his home. He was born in St. Louis, on February 2, 1926, son of the late George and Alma (Cheney) Reenan. In 1947 James married Marjorie Maxine Hamilton in St. Louis, she preceded him in death.
At the age of 17 James joined the Navy and served from November 1943 until his honorable discharge in April 1946. He served as a signalman on the USS Fox in the South Pacific during WWII. James enjoyed researching the Civil War and became a Civil War historian.
He is survived by three sons, Steven Reenan and wife Kathryn of St. Anthony, James Reenan and wife Deborah of Maryland Heights, and Keith Reenan of the home; five grandchildren, Jim Reenan of Wardsville, Laura Tuttle of Van Buren, April Rone of St. Louis, Dawn Barnowski of St. Louis, and Kristy Sicker of St. Louis; 11 great-grandchildren; and five siblings, Kenny of San Diego, California, Jerry of Nixa, George of Dixon, Beverly of St. George, Utah, and Eleanor of St. George, Utah.
He was also preceded in death by one granddaughter, Angela Berman; two brothers, Tom and Bob; and one sister, Delores.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with services immediately following at 1 p.m., on Wednesday, October 5, 2011, at Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia. Rev. Greg McClain will officiate. Interment will be in Seaton Cemetery near Dixon.
