Obituary

Jasper Hensley, age 82, of Eldon, died Sunday, July 22, 2007, at Capital Region Medical Center. He was born near Iberia on May 4, 1925, son of Milton and Nettie (Bond) Hensley. On August 18, 1947, in Tuscumbia, he was married to Dorothy Dawson, who survives at the home. They were married 59 years.

He was an Army veteran of World War II serving in Hawaii. He was a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge of Brumley. He was a Board member of Gott Cemetery and was a turkey farmer for many years in Ulman. He was a member of Ulman Christian Church. He enjoyed turkey and quail hunting, Mizzou basketball, and Cardinal baseball. But, the real joy in his life was his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He met his new, three-month-old great-granddaughter for the first time last week.

Other survivors include one son, Jim "Dick" Hensley and wife, Stella of Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin; one daughter, DeAnn Sanning of Tuscumbia; four grandchildren, Eric Hensley and wife, Amy, Janet Hensley, Mike Hensley, and Drew Sanning; three great-grandchildren, Andrew, Ella, and Austin Hensley; and one sister, Ocal Cavanah and husband, Lloyd.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Wade and Wayne Hensley; and one son, David Hensley.

Services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 26, at Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia. Bro. Gene Edwards will officiate. Interment with military honors will be in Gott Cemetery near Ulman.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
