Jerome P. Luebbering, age 79, of St. Thomas, died Monday, March 20, 2006, at his home. He was born in Cole County on August 24, 1926, a son of Ben and Emma (Lueckenotto) Luebbering. On June 1, 1949, in Jefferson City, he was married to Lucy Holzer, who survives at the home.

He was a graduate of St. Thomas School. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the Victory Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, and two Overseas Service Bars. He made his living by farming and enjoyed family prayer gatherings and visiting with his family. His hobbies were playing cards, gardening, farming and building houses, farm buildings, and furniture. He was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Church, St. Thomas the Apostle Church Men's Sodality, St. Thomas Knights of Columbus, and the National Farmers Organization (NFO).

Other survivors include four sons, Bill Luebbering and wife, Betty Jo of St. Thomas, Edward Luebbering and wife, Debbie of Mary's Home, Dennis Luebbering and wife, Diana of New Bloomfield, and Glenn Luebbering and wife, Lisa of Tuscumbia; six daughters, Mary Kay Brand and husband, Stanley of St. Thomas, Elaine Sloan and husband, Don of St. Thomas, Jerline Deardeuff and husband, Wayne of Meta, Rosann Kempker and husband, Dave of Rocky Mount, Doris Scribner and husband, Bob of Columbia, and Nancy Smith and husband, Kim of Jefferson City; one brother, Richard Luebbering and wife, Monica of Marshall; three sisters, Evelyn Luebbering of Lohman, Henrietta Kleffner and husband, Walt of Taos, and Lucille Engelmeyer and husband, Ben of St. Anthony; one sister-in-law, Rosemary Luebbering of St. Thomas; 34 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

His parents; a brother, Ralph Luebbering, a sister and her husband, Marcella and Felix Morff; and an infant daughter, Margaret Ann Luebbering, preceded him in death.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 24, at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in St. Thomas. Rev. Mark Porterfield will officiate. Interment with military honors will be in St. Thomas Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday at St. Thomas the Apostle Church with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Lung Association or St. Thomas the Apostle Church or Masses.
