Obituary

Jimmie R. Burton, age 75, of Iberia, died Thursday, September 18, 2008, at University Hospital in Columbia. He was born in Draper, Kentucky, on April 29, 1933, son of William and Eva Julia (Hamby) Burton. On April 3, 1955, in Independence, he was married to Wanda Sue Douglas, who survives at the home.

He was an Army veteran of Korea and Vietnam serving as an artillery surveying engineer. He was a surveyor for Menefee Construction for many years and was an engineering teacher at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma. He was a lifetime member and past commander of the Crocker VFW Post 4956.

Other survivors include four children, James Burton and wife Theresa of Iberia, Belinda Voiles of St. Elizabeth, Sue Wall and husband Darrell of Iberia, and David Burton and wife Becky of Sedalia; seven brothers and sisters, Clyde Burton of Florida, Harold Burton of Indiana, Virginia Bryant of Indiana, Maxine Kelly of Kentucky, Sygle Burton of Indiana, Donald Burton of Indiana, and Norma Blevens of Tennessee; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers and sisters.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 22, at Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia. Rev. Greg McClain will officiate. Interment with full military honors will be in Curry Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.
