Joan Elizabeth Roark Schraer, age 97, of Ulman, passed away Saturday, April 10, 2010, at her home. She was born in Ulman on April 4, 1913, daughter of the late Henry Burton and Evalena (Lamb) Lupardus. On December 21, 1929, in Tuscumbia, she married William Virgil Roark, who preceded her in death on December 3, 1982. On March 9, 1986, Joan married Clarence Schraer, who preceded her in death in 2001.
She enjoyed working side by side with her husband, Virgil, in the construction of their homes. She was known as Aunt Jo by many loving friends, family, and neighbors. Joan was a member of the Ulman Christian Church and attended the Tuscumbia Christian church for the last few years.
She is survived by great nieces and nephews; great-great nieces and nephews; great-great-great nieces and nephews; and one stepson, Larry Schraer and wife Judy of Richland.
She was also preceded in death by five siblings, Haskell Lupardus, Homer Lupardus, Grace Helton, Harley Lupardus, and Ted Lupardus.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 13, at Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia. Interment will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery near Tuscumbia.
Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Monday, April 12, at the funeral home.
