Joe D. Groves, age 75, of Jefferson City, formerly of Iberia, passed away Saturday, January 29, 2011, at Miller County Care and Rehabilitation Center in Tuscumbia. He was born in Iberia on December 13, 1935, son of Floy Oddly and Grace (Skaggs) Groves.
Joe was Vice President and part owner of Groves Packing Company. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed reading and gardening. Joe was a member of the Elks Lodge and the American Legion in Jefferson City. He was also a member of Brays Advent Christian Church near Iberia.
He is survived by his mother, Grace Groves; two brothers, Gary Groves and wife Donna and Davie Groves and wife Carol both of Iberia; three sisters, Judy Gilbert of Springfield, Carol Groves of St. Louis, and Kathy Bonesteel and husband Tom of Spring, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Floy Groves; one son, Michael Groves; and two brothers, Leo Groves and C.G. Groves.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with services immediately following at 1 p.m., on Friday, February 4, 2011, at Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia. Interment with military honors under the direction of Iberia VFW Post 6167 and American Legion Post 105 will be in Union Cemetery near Iberia.
