John P. Anselmo, age 81 of Rocky Mount, died Friday, October 20, 2006, at St. Marys Health Center. He was born in Chicago, Illinois on April 28, 1925, a son of the late Benedetto and Benedetta Anselmo. On November 22, 1947, in Chicago, IL, he was married to Mary Patricia Hillistad, who preceded him in death on October 17, 1998.
John was a Navy veteran of World War II. As an electrician, he worked on the construction of the Sears Tower in Chicago, Illinois and also on the Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, Illinois. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union 134 in Chicago, Illinois and was of Catholic faith. John enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren and watching them swim in the lake.
Those who survive him include: his son, Robert A. Anselmo and wife Cassandra of Arlington Heights, Illinois; four grandchildren, Robert J. Anselmo and wife Diane of Rocky Mount, David A. Anselmo and wife Jennifer of Pingree, Illinois, Timothy J. Anselmo and wife Sharon of McHenry, Illinois and Theresa L. Beer and husband Chris of Algonquin, Illinois; five great grandchildren, Trevor J. Beer, Jonathan D. Anselmo, John V. Anselmo, Katherine J. Anselmo and Travis G. Beer and one brother, Benjamin Anselmo of Sun City, Arizona.
Two brothers, Louis Anselmo and Peter Cattaneo, also preceded him in death.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 24, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eldon. Rev. Frederick Elskamp will officiate. Interment with military honors will be in Greenmore Memorial Gardens near Barnett.
Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. on Monday at Rekus Funeral Home in Eldon.
