John O. Burks, age 68, of Tuscumbia, passed away on Monday, August 16, 2021, at his home. He was born in Kansas City on September 16, 1952, son of the late Rolen Malchi and Emma Myrtle (Brown) Burks. On January 20, 1988, in Camdenton, John was united in marriage to Vicky Humphrey, who survives at their home.
John managed Mertens Convenience Store in Tuscumbia for over 20 years. He loved attending auctions and was a collector of a multitude of items. John enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed fishing and camping. He had a witty personality with a bit of orneriness and was known for playing pranks and being a jokester.
In addition to his loving wife, Vicky Burks, he is also survived by his four children, Laura Overstreet (Rich), John Paul "JP" Burks, Natasha Schulte (Chuck), and Derek Burks (Tomara); his long-time family friend, Tim Smith who he regarded as a son, nine grandchildren Kelsey, Conner, Nicole, Natalee, Riley, Naomi, Jack, Elizabeth and Hope; father and mother-in-law, Leland and Alice Humphrey; and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.
In addition to his parents Rolen and Emma Burks he was also preceded in death by three sisters, Carolyn Woolsey, Betty Snow, and Georgia Burks.
A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, August 20, with Tim Drake officiating. A celebration of life will follow at Mt. Zion Church near Tuscumbia with
