John C. Ewers, age 78, of St. Anthony, passed away Wednesday, July 15, 2009, at St. Elizabeth Care Center. He was born in St. Anthony on September 23, 1930, son of the late George C. and Mary (Volmert) Ewers. On August 3, 1957, in Marys Home, John married Patsy Limbach, who survives at the home.
He was a member of the Iberia VFW #410 and a 3rd degree member of the St. Anthony Knights of Columbus. He worked for Civil Service at Fort Leonard Wood for 24 years until his retirement. John was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church.
He is also survived by seven children, Debbie Libbert and husband Randy of Meta, Darlene Waggoner and husband Brian of Longmont, Colorado, John G. Ewers of Linn Creek, Jerry Ewers and wife Beth of St. Elizabeth, Bobby Ewers and wife Sheila of Iberia, Jimmy Ewers of Iberia, and Vicki McGarvey and husband Gary of Linn Creek; 21 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and six sisters, Cecilia Baer of St. Louis, Sister Mary Roseanne Ewers of St. Louis, Freda Schaffer of Cary, North Carolina, Sister Victoria Ewers of St. Louis, Cordula Hibdon of Eugene, and Mary Struemph of Jefferson City.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ann Schaffer and Angela Schulte; two infant sisters; and one grandson, Nicky Libbert.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 18, 2009, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. Rev. Daniel Lueckenotte will officiate. Interment will be in St. Anthony Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m., with a rosary at 4:00 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:00 p.m., on Friday, July 17, at the church.
