John C. Pendleton, age 86, of Tuscumbia, passed away on Sunday, August 18, 2013, at Miller County Care and Rehabilitation Center in Tuscumbia. He was born in Maries County on February 4, 1927, son of the late Osby and Susan (McKee) Pendleton. On June 9, 1949, at the First Christian Church in Eldon, John married Rosemary Carrender, who preceded him in death on May 16, 2010.

John served in the United States Navy during WWII. He loved his grandchildren, hunting, fishing, and farming. John was a member of Humphreys Creek Christian Church.

He is survived by two daughters, Pam Jarrett and husband Donald of Iberia and Beverly Pendleton of Lake Ozark; five grandchildren, Rebecca Heckemeyer Oleson and husband Kevin of Nixa, Gregory Heckemeyer and wife Christina of Wardsville, Sarah Bax and husband Jerry of St. Elizabeth, Derrick Jarrett and wife Tammi of Iberia, and Monica Cain and husband Randy of Centertown; twelve great-grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren; one sister, Ila Shepard of Eldon; and two brothers, Alvin Pendleton and wife Dorene of St. Elizabeth and Denny Pendleton of Tuscumbia.

He was also preceded in death by one sister, Nadine Moore.

Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, August 22, at Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia. Rev. Stan Way will officiate. Interment with military honors will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery near Tuscumbia.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, August 21, at the funeral home.
