John James Somers, age 87, of Iberia formerly of New Jersey, passed away on Saturday, July 21, 2018, at Lake Regional Health System. He was born in Jersey City, New Jersey on November 17, 1950, son of the late James and Edna Mae (Atwell) Somers. In 1955 John was united in marriage to Claire Kuhlmayer, who preceded him in death in 1985.

John honorably served in the United States Marines during the Korean War.

He is survived by one daughter, Cindy Cooke and husband Kevin of Iberia; two brothers, John Somers and wife Lisa of Florida and Brian Somers and wife Judy of New Jersey; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by one sister, Lorraine Kempf.

A private family service will be held at a later date.
