John William Wansing, age 85, of Meta, died Wednesday, April 23, 2008, at St. Mary's Health Center. He was born in Meta on November 19, 1922, son of William and Rose (Twehaus) Wansing. On February 9, 1980, in Meta, he was married to Mamie Elizabeth (Scheulen) Huhmann, who survives at the home.

He was an Army veteran of World War II. He farmed in the Meta community most of his life. He had a small engine repair shop in Meta and had worked at the Meta MFA. He was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Meta.

Other survivors include two brothers, Charles Wansing of Sedalia, and Lawrence Wansing and wife JoAnn of Meta; one sister, Betty Voss and husband Urban of St. Anthony; four stepsons, Charles Huhmann and wife Ellanora of Holts Summit, John Huhmann and wife Adina of the state of Oregon; Donald Huhmann of Brazito, and Vernon Huhmann and wife Pamela of Meta; three stepdaughters, Ella Groene and husband Albert of St. Louis, Betty Reinkemeyer and husband Fred of Brazito, and Dorothy Stauss and husband Daniel of Sedalia.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Herman and Clarence Wansing; and an infant brother and sister.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 29, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Meta. Rev. Mark Porterfield will officiate. Interment with military honors will be in St. Cecilia Cemetery.
