Joseph J. Struemph, age 86, of St. Elizabeth passed away on Tuesday, December 26, 2017, at Miller County Care and Rehabilitation Center in Tuscumbia. He was born in St. Elizabeth on March 12, 1931, son of the late Martin and Lucy (Weidinger) Struemph.
Joseph dedicated his life to farming on the family farm in St. Elizabeth, which has been in the family since 1880.
Joseph honorably served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He served on the M.F.A board in St. Elizabeth. Joseph was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in St. Elizabeth.
He is survived by one brother, Bernard Struemph and wife Barbara of Kansas City; one nephew, Bradley Struemph of Kansas City; one niece, Lucinda Howser and husband Doug of Lake Zurich, Illinois; great-nephew, Ryan Howser (Jessica) of Woodridge, Illinois; great-niece, Brianne Earl (Michael) of Chicago, Illinois; and two great-great-nephews, Benjamin Howser and Landon Earl.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two sisters, Blanche Struemph and Irene Schanzmeyer Barnhart.
Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m., with Mass of Christian Burial immediately following at 11 a.m., on Saturday, December 30, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in St. Elizabeth. Fr. Joby Thomas will officiate. Interment with military honors will be held in St. Lawrence Cemetery.
