Josephine Sussane Herx, age 96, of Meta, died Thursday, December 11, 2008, at St. Mary's Health Center. She was born in Marys Home on November 19, 1912, daughter of Theodore and Anna (Hake) Beutel. On October 15, 1935, in Meta, she married Clem Theodore Herx, who preceded her in death on December 1, 1990.
She was active in making quilts for the Meta Parish Picnic and worked many years as a seamstress at several factories in central Missouri. She was also a babysitter in Meta for 15 years. She loved quilting, fishing, and dancing. She especially enjoyed making quilts for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Meta.
She is survived by one son, Joe Herx and wife Marianne of Jefferson City; two daughters, Annie Brandt and companion Rudy Findlay and Dorothy Rotter and husband Charles all of Jefferson City; one stepsister, Mathilda Kroll Bax of Wardsville; five grandchildren; one step grandson; seven great-grandchildren; four step great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather, Bernard Kroll; six siblings, Mary F. Beutel Bungart, Elizabeth M. Beutel Berendzen, Sophia K. Beutel Stegman, Minnie Beutel Werdenhausen, Clement J. Beutel, and Bernard H. Beutel; one stepsister, Rosie M. Kroll; one son-in-law, David Brandt; and one great-grandson, Tyler LePage.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 14, 2008, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Meta. Rev. Mark Porterfield will officiate. Interment will be in St. Cecilia Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Sunday at the church.
