Obituary

Joyce Marie Blomberg, age 73, of St. Elizabeth, passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at her home.  She was born in Tuscumbia on February 2, 1952, daughter of the late Fred John and Zita Agnes (Adrian) Huhman.  On June 2, 1973, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in St. Elizabeth, Joyce married the love of her life, Gerard "Butch" Blomberg, who preceded her in death on December 18, 2023.

Joyce was devoted to her family and had a strong work ethic.  She worked for years in food services at St. Mary's Hospital in Jefferson City.  Her smile brightened many a patient's day as she delivered their meals.  More recently she brought cheer to senior citizens by preparing and serving lunches at the Clarke Senior Center in Jefferson City, from which she retired just a month ago.  She enjoyed her interactions with those she served and would often add a spark to their day by wearing a variety of hats and by engaging them in craft projects.

Joyce will be remembered for her ready laugh, wide smile, and resilience with life challenges.  She loved the color blue, enjoyed camping and fishing at the river, collected t-shirts from the places she traveled to, and was a faithful worker at the dessert table at the annual St. Elizabeth community picnic.  She enjoyed crafting, canning, cooking, and especially making desserts for family events.  She was an active participant with her siblings in the management of the original family farm on the Osage River.

Joyce was a lifelong devoted member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, where she sang in the church choir for many years.  She was a member of and past president of the St. Ann's Sodality.

She is survived by three sons, Jerry (Kourtney) Blomberg of Centertown, Michael Blomberg of Dixon, and John (Jenny) Blomberg of Springfield; grandchildren Collin, Gavin, Kalley, Danika, Simon, Zoey, Corbin and Zita; brother, Dave Huhman of Columbia; three sisters, Marian Huhman of Seattle, WA, Grace Bogart of Columbia, and Jane Franey of Portland, OR; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, Butch Blomberg, she was also preceded in death by two brothers, Fred Huhman and Roger Huhman; and sister, Carol Huhman.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., with a prayer service at 7 p.m., on Monday, March 3, at the St. Elizabeth Community Center.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 4, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in St. Elizabeth with Fr. Christopher Aubuchon officiating. Interment will be held in St. Lawrence Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Joyce Blomberg Memorial Fund.

Arrangements are under the direction of Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in St. Elizabeth.
