Obituary

Layman Duncan, age 79, of Iberia, passed away on Sunday, July 28, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family.  He was born in Brumley on January 2, 1945, son of the late Jess and Oma (Luttrell) Duncan.  On September 23, 1962, Layman was united in marriage to Sarah Pritchett, who survives at their home.

Layman was a member of the Local 662 Laborer Union for numerous years.  He was also employed at the Lodge of Four Seasons as a landscaper and later for the State Park at Lake of the Ozark.  He took great pride tending to the landscape of his yard and spending time outdoors.   He was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Kansas City Chiefs.

Throughout the years, Layman created countless memories with his family and friends.   He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, who loved his family, especially his grandchildren.  Layman was a faithful member of Honey Springs Baptist Church.

In addition to his loving wife, Sarah Duncan, he is also survived by five children, Sherry (Carl) McComb, Loretta (Earl) Durham, Scott (Patty) Duncan, Dana (David) Robinett, and Trisha Pemberton; 13 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren with one on the way; and numerous nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jess and Oma Duncan; granddaughter, Amber Guevara; and two brothers, Jesse and Kenneth Duncan.

Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., with a Memorial Service immediately following at 11 a.m., on Monday, August 5, at Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia with Brandon Kissinger and Dennis Nichols officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Layman Duncan Memorial Fund.
