Leona Verhoff, age 84, of St. Elizabeth, died Friday, February 8, 2008, at the St. Elizabeth Care Center. She was born in Miller County on January 10, 1924, a daughter of the late Henry and Catherine "Katy" (Otto) Schaffer. On April 22, 1950, in St. Anthony, she was married to Roman Anton Verhoff, who preceded her in death on November 27, 1996.
Leona was a homemaker. She was a member of the St. Lawrence Catholic Church and St. Anns Sodality.
Those who survive her include: five sons, William Verhoff of St. Elizabeth, Charles Verhoff and wife Brenda of Jefferson City, Andrew Verhoff and wife Penny of Jefferson City, Michael Verhoff of St. Elizabeth and Anthony Verhoff and wife Carol of Meta; 10 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; two brothers, Louis Schaffer of St. Louis and Vincent Schaffer of Dixon and three sisters, Marie Schaffer of St. Louis, Josephine MacDonald of Alexandria, Virginia and Henrietta Brenneke of Jefferson City.
Three sisters and one brother also preceded her in death.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 12, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in St. Elizabeth. Rev. Francis Stuart, OSB will officiate. Interment will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Monday at the St. Elizabeth Community Center with a Prayer Service at 6:00 p.m.
