Obituary

Leonard Earl McDowell, age 86, of Brumley passed away on Sunday, October 27, 2019, at his home. He was born in Brumley on April 12, 1933, son of the late Benjamin and Maggie (Golden) McDowell. He was married to Georgia Cotton who preceded him in death on October 5, 2000.

Leonard served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Nuremberg, Germany. After his honorable discharge he remained in the Reserves for 15 years and was employed at Ft. Leonard Wood until his retirement. Following his retirement, he was engaged in farming and the trading of livestock.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman and was a member of Honey Springs Baptist Church and a charter member of the Brumley Lions Club.

He is survived by one daughter, Lisa Wehrli and husband David of Pomona, KS; two sons, Hershel McDowell and wife Melissa of Lebanon, and Earl McDowell and companion Rachel Robinett of Brumley; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Emma Jean Dunn of Lone Jack; and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.

He was also preceded in death by eight siblings.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with services immediately following at 1 p.m., on Thursday, October 31, at Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia with Bro. Warren Mitchell officiating. Interment with military honors will be held at New Hope Cemetery in Kaiser.
