Lester M. "Ike" Earp, age 97, of Iberia, passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2013, at Miller County Care and Rehabilitation Center in Tuscumbia. He was born in Iberia on February 8, 1916, son of the late James and Bertha (Ponder) Earp.
Lester served in the United States Army in the Pacific Theater during WWII from June 4, 1941 until his honorable discharge on December 9, 1945. For his service he was awarded two Bronze Service Stars, Good Conduct Medal, and the Bronze Star Medal.
Lester worked as a carpenter and helped construct several homes and businesses in and around the Miller County area. He enjoyed fishing and fox hunting.
He is survived by one brother, David Earp and wife Alice of Iberia; one sister, Veta Whitaker of Blue Spings; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Claude Earp, George Earp, Phillip Earp, and one infant brother, Freddie Earp; and two sisters, Mae Davenport and Ruby Jones.
Visitation will be from10 to 11 a.m., with services immediately following at 11 a.m., on Tuesday, April 30, at Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia. Bro. Freddie Earp will officiate. Interment with military honors will be in Iberia Cemetery.
