Lewis Gene Wilson, age 93, of Meta, passed away on Friday, February 21, 2025, at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City. He was born in Meta on July 15, 1931, son of the late Verna Ray "Vernie" and Iva Jane "Ivy" (Barnhart) Wilson. On April 3, 1953, in Dixon, Lewis was united in marriage to Hazel Deardeuff, who preceded him in death on October 30, 2014.
Lewis retired from MoDOT after 30 years of employment. In addition to his career, Lewis enjoyed farming, riding his tractor, and squirrel and pheasant hunting, which brought him much joy throughout his life. He could often be found sitting outside his home enjoying his surroundings.
Lewis was a devoted Christian and an active member of Campground Christian Church, where he spent many years contributing to church events. He had an unconditional love for his family, especially his grandchildren, with whom he spent countless hours sharing stories and creating lasting memories.
He is survived by three sons, Russell Wilson and wife JoAnn, Daniel Wilson, and Dale Wilson; three grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
In addition to his parents and wife, Hazel Wilson, he was also preceded in death by his infant brother and two grandsons, Wyatt Wilson and Aaron Fennewald.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 (noon), with services immediately following at 12 (noon), on Wednesday, February 26, at Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia with Ronnie Woody officiating. Interment will be held in Pendleton Cemetery near Meta. A meal will be held following the graveside service at the Campground Christian Church.
