Luther C. Connell, age 101, of Eldon, died Thursday, February 15, 2007, at Capital Region Medical Center. He was born in Decatur on September 14, 1905, a son of the late Brad and Sally (Scruggs) Connell. In December 1943, in Tuscumbia, he was married to Lennie Ruth Campbell, who preceded him in death on June 29, 1972.
Luther was well known for his garden on the corner of 11th and Walnut. He gardened for over 80 years selling many vegetables out of his own garden. He enjoyed being outdoors; hunting, fishing and farming. He was a member of East Side Assembly of God Church in Eldon.
Those who survive him include: two sons, Charles Connell and wife Kathie of Crocker and Marion Connell and wife Jennifer of Eldon; eight grandchildren, Brad, Shannon and Brandon Connell of Crocker, Chason Connell of Cedar Ridge, Colorado, Ryan Connell of Jefferson City, David Taylor of Eldon, Jennill Evers of Eldon and Pennell Mistler of Hillsboro; nine great grandchildren; three sisters, Sylvia Bates of Jefferson City, Edna Graham and Ardis Buster both of Eldon and numerous nieces and nephews.
Two infant children, six brothers and one sister also preceded him in death.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 19, at Rekus Funeral Home in Eldon. Bro. Jim Frisby will officiate. Interment will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery near Eldon.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Sunday at Rekus Funeral Home in Eldon.
