Obituary

Marie Alice (Groves) Shackleford, age 85, of Iberia, passed away on Monday, November 30, 2020, at Miller County Care and Rehabilitation Center in Tuscumbia. She was born in Ottumwa, Iowa, on March 21, 1935, daughter of the late Wayne Issac and Marie Alice (Murphy) Groves. After the death of her mother, Marie and her twin sister, Marcia, were raised by their aunt, Ruth Grady, who loved and cared for them as her own.

On November 5, 1955, in Iberia, Marie was united in marriage to Fremont Glen Shackleford, who preceded her in death on June 8, 1998.

Marie worked alongside her husband, Fremont, at the Iberia Drug Store and MFA Insurance Agency. They later purchased the Independent Insurance Agency and renamed it Shackleford Insurance Agency. She was a member in various organizations including, Iberia Garden Club, Holly Guild, and the Eastern Star obtaining the title of Worthy Matron and District Deputy Grand Matron. Marie was a woman of faith and was a devoted member of First Baptist Church in Iberia. She was an active member in the church working on the hospitality committee, serving as secretary, and volunteering in the preschool for many years.

She is survived by one son, Robert Shackleford of Kansas City; two daughters, Teresa Tabor (Tim) of Lake Ozark and Susan Zink (Jeff) of Iberia; six grandchildren, Audrey Wilson (Tyler), Jessika Cook (Rhett), Nick Zink, Bennett Zink, Greg Tabor, and Matt Tabor (Heather); two great-grandchildren, Sawyer and Natyli Wilson; three sisters, Mary Lou O'Haver, Jean Kolz, and Nora Bond; and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fremont, parents, Wayne Groves (Lois) and Marie Groves; twin sister, Marcia Shackleford; and two brothers, Ted and Jed Groves.

Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., with funeral services immediately following at 11:30 a.m., on Thursday, December 3, at First Baptist Church in Iberia with Bro. Roy Bryant officiating. Interment will be held in Iberia Cemetery.

Facial masks and social distancing are mandatory for those attending the funeral services.
