Marjorie Jacobs, age 98, of Meta, passed away Thursday, March 26, 2009, at her home. She was born in Alva, Oklahoma, on December 2, 1910, daughter of Dr. Albert and Mrs. Birdie (Blunke) Clarke. In 1934, Marjorie married Willie (Bill) Jacobs, who preceded her in death in 1966.
She attended the Alva public schools and graduated from high school in 1929, then from Northwestern State Teachers College in 1933 with a BS degree. While in college, Marjorie was a member of "The Little Theatre" and the YWCA of which she held all four offices. She worked in her father's dental and optical office as an assistant during her stay in Alva. Her husband, Willie Jacobs, was a proprietor of the Hudson Essex Garage in Alva and he was in the garage business with his brother Clinton Jacobs in Meta. Marjorie and Willie had three sons, William Wendell, Clinton DeWayne, and Joseph Wyot Jacobs.
Marjorie was a member the PTA, the Friendly Neighbors Extension Club, and she had a teenage sewing and crocheting class that she taught as well as a 4H group of boys. She was also a member of Meta Christian Church since 1937.
Marjorie taught school in Meta, four years in St. Elizabeth, and ten years in Vienna. She attended Lincoln University for two summers.
She is survived by two sons, Wayne Jacobs of Meta and Joe Jacobs of Wetumka, Oklahoma; nine grandchildren, Mike Jacobs of Centertown, Cindy Gerling of Wardsville, Valerie Sparks of St. Louis, Chris Jacobs of Meta, Wille Jacobs of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Genella Green of Hampton, Virginia, Jason Jacobs of Sand Springs, Oklahoma, Nathan Jacobs of Broken Arrow, Okalahoma, and Derrick Jacobs of Duncan, Oklahoma; sixteen great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and a few cousins.
She was also preceded in death by her oldest son, Billy Wendell Jacobs in 1970; three brothers; and two sisters.
Services will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 29, 2009, at Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in Meta. Rev. Dale Beasterfeld will officiate. Interment will be in Southside Cemetery in Meta.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Saturday, March 28, at the funeral home.
