Obituary

Mary Ann Bode Struemph Doerhoff, age 84, of St. Elizabeth, passed away at SSM Health St. Mary's – Jefferson City, on Thursday, June 20, 2019. She was born in St. Elizabeth on September 4, 1934, daughter of the late Bernard Bode and Ledwina (Bax) Bode.

Mary Ann was united in marriage to Fred Struemph on September 10, 1955 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church. Fred preceded her in death on February 12, 1983. On November 27, 1987, Mary Ann married Alfred Doerhoff at St. Lawrence Catholic Church.

Mary Ann was a devout Catholic and lifetime member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church. She served her church in many different capacities throughout the years and was a member of St. Ann's Sodality. She was very active in her community, served on the St. Elizabeth R-IV School Board and graciously volunteered her time at community events. She worked as a secretary, nurse and bookkeeper before spending her final decades as a homemaker.

Mary Ann was very proud of her family and enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren – all of whom adored her and enjoyed their time together just as much. Quilting was a talent of hers and she handmade quilts for each of her 18 grandchildren. She also had a passion for baking and was well-known for her delicious pies and "Brian's Buffalo Cookies." Mary Ann enjoyed puzzles, board games and cards – especially when she had company.

She is survived by her husband, Alfred Doerhoff of the home, and six children – Joann Young (Ken) of Carbondale, Ill., Lewis Struemph (Ronnie) of O'Fallon, James Struemph (Pat) of St. Elizabeth, Frank Struemph (Carol) of Villa Ridge, Stan Struemph (Theresa) of St. Elizabeth, and Paul Struemph (Karen) of St. Thomas; daughter-in-law Linda Struemph of Washington; 18 grandchildren – Dana Strueby, Krista Kesel (Nathan), Nathan Struemph (Natalie), Dan Struemph (Ashley), Alyssa Haymore (Travis), Sarah Adams (Travis), Becky Otto (Justin), Matthew Struemph (Samantha), Katalin Young, Erica Wargo (Josh), Emily Haarmann (Mark), Renee Wilde (Chris), Megan Struemph, Amy Young, Abbey Schroeder (Michael), Erin Struemph, Jacob Struemph and Elizabeth Struemph; 19 great-grandchildren; six sisters, Evelyn Dubbert (late husband Cletus), Lorraine Oligschlaeger (late husband Jerry), Betty Lueckenhoff (Jim), Ramona Bax (Richard), June Groner (Art), Rachael Steele (Lou); and several brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Struemph and son, Dennis Struemph.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 24, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church with Fr. Joby Parakkacharuvil Thomas officiating. Interment will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., with a prayer service led by Fr. Joby Parakkacharuvil Thomas at 3:30 p.m., on Sunday, June 23, at the church.

Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Lawrence Catholic Church and Mass intentions.
