Mary Freda Helton, age 93, of Iberia, passed away Tuesday, June 29, 2010, at St. Elizabeth Care Center. She was born in Edgar Springs on October 7, 1916, daughter of the late Anthony and Ethel (Bishop) Brookshire. On May 19, 1941, in Waynesville, she married Roscoe Helton, who preceded her in death on December 19, 1985.

Mary is a member of Brays Advent Christian Church and was recently attending Humphreys Creek Christian Church.

She is survived by one son, Gregory Homer Helton of Iberia; two daughters, Onie Boulware of Tuscumbia and Judy Hodge-Smith and husband Lex Smith of St. Elizabeth; four grandsons, Stacey Hodge and wife Katie of Lake Ozark, Travis Hodge and wife Stacey of Iberia, Tyson Helton and wife Gloria of Tuscumbia, and Lucas Helton of Tuscumbia; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her grandson, Dean Boulware Jr.; one brother, Lyndsey Brookshire; one sister, Helen Mehrtens; and two sons-in-law, James D. Hodge and Dean Boulware, Sr.

Visitation will be held from 12 (noon) to 2 p.m., with services immediately following at 2 p.m., on Thursday, July 1, 2010, at Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia. Bro. Russell Cobb will officiate. Interment will be in Union Cemetery near Iberia.
