Mildred Grace Barnhart, age 101, of St. Elizabeth formerly of Meta, passed away Sunday, February 26, 2012, at St. Elizabeth Care Center. She was born in Jefferson City on January 30, 1911, daughter of the late William Fulton and Hulda Clara (Kretzschmar) Baughman. On July 1, 1951, in Jefferson City, Mildred married Ellis Barnhart, who preceded her in death on January 23, 1980.

Mildred graduated from Jefferson City High School on May 21, 1931. She lived in Jefferson City and worked for Kress Dime Store. Following her marriage she moved to the farm in Meta. After her father passed away she and Ellis moved her mother into their home and cared for her until the time of her mother's death. She had no children of her own, however she loved her nieces and nephews as if they were her own.

At an early age Mildred was baptized in a Lutheran Church in Jefferson City. After moving to Meta she faithfully attended the Meta Christian Church and Lutheran Church of Babbtown as long as her health allowed. Mildred enjoyed attending Wednesday night bible studies at the Christian Church in Meta. The highlight of her life was attending church and the fellowship she developed with the church family. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by two sister-in-laws, Betty Barnhart and husband Wayne and Dorothy Barnhart Woods and husband Jack both of Springfield and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m., with services immediately following at 11 a.m., on Tuesday, February 28, 2012, at Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in Meta. Bro. Manuel Seaton will officiate. Interment will be in Southside Cemetery near Meta.
