Obituary

Myna Jane (Patterson) McGowin – affectionately known to her family and friends as "Momo" – passed away peacefully at her home on March 30, 2016 at the age of 75 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born November 25, 1940 in Ulman, MO to the late Tennyson and Nita (Stone) Patterson.

She lived all her life in Ulman, MO. She was a 1957 graduate of School of the Osage, and remained a faithful Indian fan and supporter all her life. On August 7, 1957 she married her favorite dance partner Joshua "Buster" McGowin. Buster survives at the home, fondly remembering each and every two-step he shared with Myna during their 58 years together.

Myna's pride and joy was her family. She is survived by sons, Shannon (Sonia) McGowin and Sheldon (Andrea) McGowin, and daughter, Sharla Hyler. Momo's grandbabies include: Jenni Webber, Josh (Annie) McGowin, Jay McGowin, Mallory (Seth) McGowin Jarrett, Jared Hyler, Sean McGowin, Jarel Hyler, Elizabeth O'Donnell and Roan O'Donnell. She's also survived by great-grandchildren Vanessa Webber, Dean Webber, Drew Webber, Caroline Jarrett and Crosby Jarrett. She was preceded in death by her parents and great-granddaughter Madeline "Maddie" McGowin, whom she'll finally get to hold and rock to sleep in Heaven.

After raising children and supporting Buster's career in education and hunting, Myna also went to work. She had a number of interesting jobs in the service industry, including positions at the Ulman Post Office, Happy Fisherman, Anheuser-Busch, Lodge of Four Seasons, Consumer's Market and ACT.

Myna shared her talents behind the piano with the congregation at the Ulman Christian Church for nearly 60 years, rarely missing a single service. She was an avid Young and the Restless soap opera viewer, a dynamite country line-dancer and one heck of a cook, known best for her fried chicken and pies.

Visitation will be held at Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia on Friday, April 1 from 4-7 pm. Funeral services will also take place at Fancher-Rekus on Saturday, April 2 at 2 pm with Brother Phil Gardner officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Hickory Point Cemetery. Myna's family asks anyone who plans to attend services to celebrate Myna's life by wearing purple – her favorite color.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Ulman Christian Church. Mail to: 69 Hwy JJ, Ulman, MO 65083.
