Nancy Zimmer, age 74, of Brinktown, passed away on Saturday, October 5, 2013, at Barnes-Jewish Mercy Hospital in St. Louis. She was born in Jefferson City on November 26, 1938, daughter of the late Lambert and Mary Agnes (Walsh) Borgmeyer. On October 24, 1959, in Meta, Nancy married Vernon Bernard Zimmer, who survives at the home. She was a very active and devoted member of Guardian Angels Catholic Church.

During her working career, Nancy served as Postmaster in Brinktown and Vichy for 24 years, until her retirement. She received many awards for outstanding service in her duties and recognition for teaching area school students thru the We Deliver and Benjamin Franklin Stamp Clubs.

Nancy found great joy in volunteering and helping others. As a member of the Maries County Merry Makers singing group she was able to help make people happy thru song. As a volunteer Ombudsman at Maries Manor Nursing Home, she saw to it that residents were taken care of and treated with respect. For many years she has visited local residents who were homebound and also those in the local assisted living facilities, bringing them communion, listening to them, holding their hands and helping them find piece. She was a caretaker her whole life.

Family was extremely important to her. Grandma Nancy loved to teach homemaking skills, including cooking, baking, sewing, and crafts. She loved family and friends to visit and enjoy the farm, and always had an open door policy.

She is also survived by six children, Mark Zimmer of Belle, Judy James and husband Clint Darr of Fulton, Paul Zimmer and wife Tami of Orangevale, California, John Zimmer and wife Melissa of Vienna, Dale Zimmer and friend Donna Kesel of Folk, and Glen Zimmer and wife Kristan of Allen, Texas; 16 grandchildren, Jacinda Zimmer, Candice Zimmer, Elise Zimmer, Jennifer James, Megan Roberson, Molly James, David James, Hannah Zimmer, Paxton Zimmer, Kelsea Zimmer, Morgan Zimmer, Allie Zimmer, Alex Zimmer, Ashley Zimmer, Blake Zimmer, and Alaina Zimmer; five great-grandchildren, Jordan Stulce, Hailey Stulce, Brooklyn Stulce, Jason Stulce, and Peyton Roberson; one sister, Dorothy Grotemeyer; and four brothers, Daniel Borgmeyer, Larry Borgmeyer, Jerry Borgmeyer, and Gary Borgmeyer.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Mary Beth Borgmeyer, two brothers, James Borgmeyer and Robert Borgmeyer; and one granddaughter, Kaitlyn Zimmer.

Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m., with Mass of Christian Burial immediately following at 11 a.m., on Tuesday, October 8, at Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Brinktown. Msgr. Marion Makarewicz will officiate. Interment will be in Guardian Angels Cemetery in Brinktown.
