Obituary

Nina (Holtsclaw) Jones, long-time resident of Dixon, Missouri, died peacefully on September 20, 2024, at her own home at the age of 98, surrounded by her loving family.  Nina was born in rural Dixon on August 13, 1926, daughter of the late Frances Rollie and Dora Viola (Aaron) Holtsclaw.  On October 24, 1952, in Sullivan, Missouri, Nina was united in marriage to Farris Jones.  To this union, two daughters were born.

Nina worked hard her entire life.  In 1942, at the age of 18, Nina began working at Fort Leonard Wood at the Post Exchange.  Among other sales duties, Nina dipped many ice cream cones for service men and women during the latter part of WWII.

In 1946, Nina began work at the Kaut Lauman and Winter Shoe Factory in Dixon, which later became Brown Shoe.  Over her years there, Nina top-stitched shoes, including the very popular Buster Brown Mary Janes worn by many girls on special occasions.  Nina retired in 1988 after 42 years of employment and was honored as Brown's longest-term employee.  Following Farris' death due to cancer, Nina, along with daughter Gay and friend and Relay for Life team captain, Doris Howser, and others, contributed many hours of concession stand work for fundraising for the American Cancer Society.

Nina became a follower of Jesus Christ at an early age at Pisgah Baptist Church and remained committed to becoming like Jesus throughout her life.  During most of their married lives, Nina and Farris lived out their faith in community at Burnett Church.  In later years, Nina attended and served at Goodwill Baptist Church.  Nina demonstrated her love and obedience to Jesus through acts of service – exemplified by gifting her family's intended Thanksgiving Dinner to close friends and fishing buddies grieving the sudden loss of their grandson.   Nina was an avid gardener and loved fishing with her husband.  Indoors, Nina was a voracious reader and passed her love of books on to her daughters.  Nina always contributed generously to dinners and church activities.  She was well known for her chicken and dumplings, garden-fresh corn, green beans and pickled beets as well as desserts such as fried fruit (especially apricot) pies and lemon meringue pies.

She is survived by two daughters, Glee Jones of Redmond, WA and Gay Kline of the home, and special niece, Janet Rigsby of Dixon, who Nina loved like a daughter.  Nina welcomed with loving arms, her son-in-law, Larry Kline to her family in 2012 along with his son, Mike (Anna) and two daughters, Jennifer and Amanda (Michael) and granddaughter, Adaline.

She was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 49 years, Farris Jones on September 25, 2001.  Also preceding Nina in death was her father on February 23, 1978; her mother, on February 26, 1995; three brothers, Kenneth Holtsclaw on April 6, 2006, Cecil Holtsclaw on February 10, 1985, and Harley Holsclaw on November 10, 2013; and one sister, Nadine Holtsclaw on January of 1929, at the age of six years.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 (noon), with services immediately following at 12 (noon), on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at Goodwill Baptist Church, 11595 Highway 17, Crocker, Missouri, with Robert McGuire officiating.  Interment will be held in Dixon Cemetery.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Goodwill Baptist Church or Meadowbrook Church in Redmond Washington.
