Obituary

Norbert X. Bax, age 77, of St. Elizabeth, died Thursday, July 3, 2008, at Capital Region Medical Center. He was born in St. Elizabeth on June 11, 1931, son of Joseph and Agatha (Twehus) Bax. On October 20, 1956, in St. Elizabeth, he was married to Martha Lee Tappehorn, who survives at the home.

He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He owned and operated Bax Grocery from 1959 until 1982. He was a farmer and drove a school bus for the St. Elizabeth School District for many years. He was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in St. Elizabeth.

Other survivors include two sons, Donald A. Bax and wife Debbie and Darrell Bax all of St. Elizabeth; five daughters, Diane Otto and husband Harold of Wardsville, Darlene Rush and husband Danny of Tuscumbia, Sharon Wilde and husband Henry of St. Elizabeth, Carol Buechter and husband Stephen of Wardsville, and Brenda Bax of St. Elizabeth; two brothers, Edward Bax and wife Joann of O'Fallon, and Arlie Bax and wife Jane of St. Elizabeth; one sister, Mary Ann Bax and husband Jerome of St. Louis; twenty-three grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, William, Theodore, and Albert Bax.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 7, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in St. Elizabeth. Rev. Francis Stuart, OSB, will officiate. Interment with military honors will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Sunday at Rekus Funeral Home in St. Elizabeth with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m.
