Norma Sue Ely, age 75, of Brumley, passed away on Sunday, May 21, 2023, at her home.  She was born in Eldon on November 16, 1947, daughter of the late Norman "Shorty" and Ruby (Rodden) Ballenger.  On September 29, 1984, Sue was united in marriage to Kenneth Larry Ely, who preceded her in death on December 5, 1999.

Sue was raised on her family farm in Brumley.  In addition to spoiling her grandkids, Sue's favorite pastime was tending to her array of flowers.  She was an active member of her community serving on the Brumley Town Board and was a member of the Brumley Fireflies, assisting in countless funeral meals over the years.  She was the definition of kindness, who was always quick to smile and helping others in need.   She was employed at L.B. Manufacturing in Iberia for numerous years and later worked at the Miller County Nursing Home until her retirement in 2006.  She had an unconditional love for her family, who will miss her dearly.

She is survived by her daughter, Patricia (Mike) Witt of Iberia; two granddaughters, Casandra (Bradley) McMeekan and Hannah Witt both of Iberia; five great-grandchildren, Dalton McMeekan, Presley McMeekan, Lane McMeekan, Grady McMeekan, and Sheridan Clark; dear friends, Alice Mitchell and Jim McMorris; stepfather, Felix Helms; and numerous family and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by her sister, Barbara Long and brother, Ted Ballenger.

Visitation will be held from 12 (noon) to 2 p.m., with services immediately following at 2 p.m., on Thursday, May 25, at Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia with Bro. Freddie Earp officiating.  Interment will be held in Freedom Church of Christ Cemetery near Linn Creek.
