Obituary
Paul Gene Helton, age 83, of Algonac, Michigan, and of Ulman, passed away on Friday, August 8, 2014 in St. John River District Hospital, East China Township, Michigan. He was born on August 13, 1930, son of the late Guy and Grace (Lupardus) Helton. On June 17, 1978, in Huntington Woods, Michigan, Paul married Heather Pannecouk, who survives at the home.
Paul served in the United States Navy and was a member of the NRA (National Rifle Association). He was employed at General Motors for over 40 years as an accountant, retiring in December of 1992 as the Executive Director of Staff Accounting Services. After his retirement, he and Heather spent half of the year at their home in Ulman, Missouri where he enjoyed hunting and fishing on their property. He was a well-known outdoorsman who hunted and fished in Michigan as well. He will be remembered for his fish fry's, wild game dinners, and pig roasts. Entertaining was one of his joys and he would usually be found at the grill, using his culinary skills, preparing the meal. Tending his vegetable garden, he grew tomatoes, green beans, and beets, just to mention a few of the items, and then he and Heather enjoyed canning them for future use.
Paul will be greatly missed by his loving family, including his wife Heather, his children James (Marian) Helton, Julie (Louis) Helton-Grande, and Karen Helton. He was the proud grandfather of Brian Thompson, Kiley Miller, Jessica (Helton) Capozzo, and Kelly Helton. He was also survived by six great grandchildren, Taylor, Kaitlyn, Cole, Serenity, Peyton and Dalton, his brother Larry Helton, former wife Kay M. (Roberts) Helton and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was also preceded in death by his two older brothers, Lloyd and Lohman Helton.
Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 16, at Mt. Zion Christian Church in Tuscumbia. Charlie Worstell will officiate. Interment will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery in Tuscumbia.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, August 15, at Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, August 12, 2014 from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Harold W. Vick Funeral Home in Mount Clemens, MI.
