Paul Gene Shelton, age 90, of Iberia, passed away on Sunday, October 20, 2019, at Arrowhead Senior Living Community in Osage Beach. He was born in Miller County on December 3, 1928, son of the late Spurgeon and Clarice (Waite) Shelton. On May 3, 1947, Paul married Lena Shackelford, who preceded him in death on June 1, 2012. In June of 2013, Paul married Iva Lee Hancock, who preceded him in death on December 27, 2016.
Paul served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War and was honorably discharged on November 14, 1955. Throughout his life, Paul was a successful business owner and operator over several companies. He began his career running the truck line, Shelton and Sons, with his father. In 1958 he opened Shelton's Phillips 66 and Grocery, in 1960 built the Dairy Bar that was operated by Paul, Lena and family, and owned and operated Shelton's Furniture and Appliance, which he sold in the 1970's. Over the years he also ran Shelton's Sales and Service, TV and Appliance, pump service and repair and worked for Iberia Mechanical.
Paul was an avid aviator, taking his family on many trips. He served on the Iberia School Board for several years and was a member of the Iberia Lions Club, Iberia Baptist Church, and attended Hickory Point Church.
He is survived by two children, Randy Shelton of Iberia and Yolanda Graham and husband Larry of Jefferson City; stepson, Don Hancock of Texas; four grandchildren, Shane, Shawn, Amber, and Dalton; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Maureen Stamper of Linn Creek and Mary Smuder of Belton; and one brother, Larry Shelton of Peculiar.
In addition to his parents and wives, he was also preceded in death by two sisters, Juanita McDowell and Martha Helen Shelton.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., with services immediately following at 12 (noon) on Saturday, October 26, at Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia with Mac McCully officiating. Interment with military honors will be held at Hickory Point Cemetery.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Hickory Point Cemetery or Central Missouri Honor Flight.
