R. Mason Link, age 93, of Iberia and Holts Summit, died Friday, August 25, 2006, at St. Marys Health Center. He was born in New Bloomfield on March 22, 1913, son of Mason Kirt and Alma (Rice) Link, both deceased. On September 21, 1940, in Lebanon, he was married to Edith Wilma Lawson, who preceded him in death on June 16, 2005.
He was an Army veteran of World War II serving in France and was in Reims when they signed the armistice to end the war. He helped his father as a carpenter and painter. He served the people of the State of Missouri as an administrator for the Missouri Department of Revenue. In his career, he was also a publisher for the Meta Herald, taught school for the Missouri School for the Deaf in Fulton, and was a representative for Business Men's Assurance Company of America-Kansas City, Missouri, and Millers Mutual of Alton, Illinois. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, and Cardinal baseball fan. He loved to trout fish in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. He was a strong supporter of the Democratic Party. In his younger days, he loved to go to the Dixie Gardens and dance. He was a member of the Jefferson City First Christian Church. He dearly loved his family and family values.
He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Larry Bryan and Carolyn Louise Link of Holts Summit.
Visitation will be from 1-3 p.m. on Tuesday, August 29, at Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia. Services will follow at 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Donald E. Carter officiating. Interment with military honors will be in Iberia Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Iberia Cemetery, Miller County Historical Society, or Jefferson City First Christian Church.
