Rayma Jean (Sooter) Nixdorf, age 82, of Iberia, passed away at her home on Tuesday, February 25, 2014. She was born in Horton, Kansas on January 23, 1932, daughter of the late Mark and Lena Sooter.
Rayma attended school in Kansas City and later moved to the Miller County area and graduated from Eldon. In August of 1947 at Mt. Zion Christian Church at the age of 15 Rayma dedicated her heart, mind, life, and body to Jesus Christ. She later became a member of Fairview Christian Church in October of 1967.
Rayma was secretary to CD Snodgrass, Superintendent of all local rural schools for 3 years. Rayma married Bob Nixdorf, son of the late Charles and Bertha Nixdorf, on August 20, 1950, for a period of 63 years and 5 months. Following marriage she went to work with Bob at Ft. Leonard Wood, where she was secretary to the Post Civilian Personnel Officer for 3 years. As her family grew she became a homemaker and raised her four boys and helped care for Bob and the farm.
Rayma's father, Mark Sooter, was the Pastor for Fairview Church and other local churches for 30 years. Rayma was his piano player for over 30 years and after his passing, she continued playing another 30 years for many other pastors and churches. Her most cherished music was singing by the congregation.
She was and is looking forward with great anticipation to meeting her Master and Lord, Jesus Christ and the many she loved and lost. Rayma will be greatly and sadly missed by many.
She is survived by her husband, Bob Nixdorf of the home; one son, Marvin Nixdorf and wife Kelly of Ulman; one granddaughter (daughter adopted) Barbara Cottrell and husband Mike of Eldridge; four granddaughters, Anna Hill, Lindsey Hill, Paige Cottrell, all of Eldridge and Beverly Nixdorf of Houston; three grandsons, Bobby Dale Nixdorf and wife Melanie of Iberia, Daniel Lee Nixdorf and wife Amanda of Brumley, and Mark Nixdorf of Iberia; three great-grandchildren, Heston, Chloe, and Joseph; one brother, Mark Junior Sooter and wife Katie of Eldon; four nephews, Steve Whitaker, Rick Whitaker, Timothy Whitaker, and Mark Gregory Sooter, two nieces, Linda Sooter and Debbie Sooter.
She was preceded in death by three sons, Mike Nixdorf, Bobby Nixdorf, and Brian Nixdorf; two sisters, Loraine Whitaker and Geneva Varnell; and five nephews, Tommy Whitaker, Mickey Ray Varnell, Mark Varnell, Terry Varnell, and Kenneth Varnell.
Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, February 28, 2014, at Fairview Christian Church near Iberia. Pastor Randy Stohs and Pastor Mike Allen will officiate. Interment will be in Livingston Cemetery near Iberia.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, February 27, 2014, at Fairview Christian Church.
