Richard Henry Meyer, age 95, of Columbia formerly of Iberia, passed away on Sunday, June 23, 2024, at Harry S. Truman VA Memorial Hospital in Columbia.  He was born in Evanston, Illinois, on December 15, 1928, son of the late Walter and Laurel (Doremus) Meyer.  On March 1, 1969, Richard was united in marriage to Janet Tharp, who survives at their home.

Richard honorably served in the United States Navy during the Korean War.  Richard was an active member of the Iberia community.  He was a member of American Legion Post 105 and owned and operated Hummingbird Restaurant in Iberia for numerous years.

In addition to his loving wife, Janet Meyer, he is also survived by six children, Thomas A. (Linda) Meyer, Julie (Randy) Schulte, Timothy (Beth) Meyer, Teresa New, Tracey (Lori) Meyer, and Thomas E. (Laura) Meyer; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and numerous family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Tonya Wilson, granddaughters, Stephanie Wilson and Krista Schulte, and brother, Walter Meyer Jr.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., with a memorial service at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 27, at Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia.  Inurnment with military honors will be held at Union Cemetery in Iberia.
