Rita Christine Bax, age 82, of St. Elizabeth, died Saturday, January 20, 2007, at St. Elizabeth Care Center. She was born in St. Thomas on December 13, 1924, daughter of John Andrew and Anna Marie (Muehlenkamp) Gerling. On May 8, 1948, in St. Elizabeth, she was married to Clarence Samuel Bax, who survives.
She was a homemaker and a member of St. Ann's Ladies Sodality and St. Lawrence Catholic Church in St. Elizabeth. She and her husband moved to Florissant in 1948 and returned to a farm near St. Elizabeth in 1966.
Other survivors include four sons, John Bax and wife, Marlene of Meta, Eugene Bax and wife, Cindy of Ulman, James Bax and wife, Brenda of Clayton, and Thomas Bax of St. Elizabeth; one sister, Rufina Boessen of St. Thomas; 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Joseph Bax; one daughter, Kerry Booth; one brother, John Gerling; and one sister, Sr. Mary Elise Gerling.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 24, 2007, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in St. Elizabeth. Rev. Francis Stuart, OSB, will officiate. Interment will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday at the St. Elizabeth Community Center with a Rosary at 6:00 p.m.
