Rita Marie (Himmelsbach) Yates, age 44, of Iberia, died Sunday, February 18, 2007, at Lake Regional Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in St. Charles on March 25, 1962, a daughter of the late Fredrick and Mildred (Sammelmann) Himmelsbach.
On September 2, 1989 in Foristell she was married to her best friend and life partner, Thomas William Yates. Together, they had one son, Shane, who was the delight of his mother's life. Tom and Shane both survive in the home. At the time of her marriage, Rita became proud step-mom to Doug and Carmen, who she loved dearly. They survive with their families in Warrenton and Wright City. One of her greatest joys was being Grandma to Kyle, Tori, Austin, Brandon, Joe, Deven, Marissa, Kyler and Colton.
Rita was beloved sister to Martha, ("Marty"), and sister-in-law to Jeff and proud aunt to Jeff, Nathan and Brent who survive in Florida and also sister-in-law to Betty, Bill, Delores, Donny, Elaine and Patsy.
She was niece and cousin to a large family and terrific friend to a host of people in her life.
One nephew, Blake, also preceded her in death.
Rita was a licensed cosmetologist and had a successful career as a stylist and salon owner. She loved to cook and do all kinds of crafts, caring for her family was a rewarding endeavor for her and she delighted in pleasing them. She was a proud member of the Red Hat Society in Iberia and cherished the friendships she cultivated there. She was also a member of the "Brotherhood of the Third Wheel" and enjoyed the freedom she found riding with Tom on their trike.
Rita's life will be celebrated with a time of visitation on Wednesday, February 21, from 5-8 p.m. and a service on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia. Rev. Greg McClain and Rev. Glen Golden will officiate. Interment will be in Iberia Cemetery.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society or the American Kidney Foundation.
The family sends special thanks to the community of Iberia for their on-going support during Rita's illness and passing. She has left a permanent mark on all of the lives she touched and loved.
