Obituary

Robert Ray Campbell, age 86, of Eldon, died Monday, February 12, 2007, at St. Marys Health Center. He was born in Eldon on August 8, 1920, a son of Chris and Alice (Wiser) Campbell. Two years later, his mother, Alice, died giving birth to his brother. Robert was then raised by his aunt Zena Leslie. On February 22, 1947, in Highpoint, he married Gloria L. Cooper, who preceded him in death on December 4, 2005.

Ray was an Army Air Corp and Air Force veteran, serving in England during World War II. He was a former commander and officer of the Miller County VFW Post 2442 and was an insurance salesman. He was also a member of Eldon First Baptist Church.

Those who survive him include: One son, Fred Smock and wife Susan of Paola, Kansas; one daughter, Margaret Louise Rush and husband Marvin of Eldon; 9 grandchildren, Holly Robinett, Monty Caroll, Darren, Rob and Sam Smock, Duane, Marty and Shawn Rush and Shanna Flaugher; 15 great grandchildren, Rebecca, Miles and Brice Carroll, Cody, Wes, Levi, Janie, Shelby and Amanda Smock, Cole, Jasmine, Addison, Hailey and Emma Rush and Grace Flaugher.

One daughter, Betty Smock; one grandson, Kenneth Carroll and one brother, Harold Campbell, also preceded him in death.

Services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 16, at Rekus Funeral Home in Eldon. Rev. Randall Bunch will officiate. Interment with full military honors will be in Greenridge Baptist Church Cemetery near Eldon.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday at Rekus Funeral Home in Eldon.
