Robert "Bob" H. Hix, Sr., age 88, of Ulman, passed away Saturday, October 30, 2010, at St. Mary's Health Center in Jefferson City. He was born in Tuscumbia on December 1, 1921, son of the late Charles Herbert and Besse Belle (Dawson) Hix. On December 16, 1943, in Garrett Park, Maryland, Robert married Etta J. Harrison, who survives at the home.
Robert served as a Deacon at the Ulman Baptist Church, where he also volunteered as treasurer and taught Sunday School. He served on the board for the Miller County Soil and Water Conservation District and worked for many years at Fort Leonard Wood Civil Service as the Director of Maintenance until his retirement. Robert was Miller County Collector during the 1960's and was a farmer all his life. He served in the U.S. Marines during WWII. Robert was a member of the Iberia VFW Post 6167 and the American Legion Post 105. For the last seven years Robert resided at the St. Elizabeth Care Center.
He is also survived by three sons, Robert Hart Hix, Jr. and partner Lee of Yucca Valley, California, Herbert Hix and wife Sandy of St. Charles, and William "Bill" Hix and wife Jan of Iberia; two daughters, Mary Pemberton and husband Jimmy of Iberia and Nancy Helton and husband Danny of Brinktown; nine grandchildren, Toni Mas of Hialeah, Florida, Andrea Jarvis of St. Charles, Mike Hinkley of Marshfield, Heather Luttrell of Smithton, Sara Belle Hinkley of Marshfield, Madeleine Cochran of Iberia, Matt Helton of Brinktown, Nikki Jones of Iberia, and Sam Helton of Brinktown; ten great-grandchildren, Leighan Sjule, Jenna Hinkley, Alyssa Hinkley, Stacia Luttrell, Cole Luttrell, Kiersten Luttrell, Alex Hinkley, Kinlee Cochran, Kyler Cochran, and Tucker Jones; one great-niece, Janet Buthol; and two great-nephews, John Wexler and John Hix.
He was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Linda Jane Hix.
Visitation will be from 12 (noon) to 2 p.m., with services immediately following at 2 p.m., on Wednesday, November 3, 2010, at the Ulman Baptist Church. Bro. Kevin Blackburn and Bro. Gene Edwards will officiate. Interment with military honors under the direction of the Iberia VFW Post 6167 and the American Legion Post 105 will be in Gott Cemetery near Ulman.
