Hix, Jr.
November 6, 1944 – December 4, 2023
Robert "Bob" H. Hix, Jr., age 79, of Palm Springs, California, passed away on December 4, 2023, at A.M.P.M Assure Care of Catheral City, CA. He had spent several months battling Dementia and COPD. Bob was the oldest of six children born to Robert "Bob" and Etta Hix.
Bob graduated from Tuscumbia (Miller R-3) High School in 1962. Upon graduation he went to Southwest Baptist College for two years and graduated from SMS (Missouri State) in 1966. He enlisted in the United States Navy, serving as a Medical Corpsman in Hospital Administration from December 1966 to September 1970.
Bob resided in California for over 40 years. It was there he was able to flourish and achieve great honors with his art and quilting. He was an animal lover – welcoming many cats and dogs into his life, but none were loved as much as his faithful dog, Louie!
Bob's legacy is characterized by his generous spirit and his profound love for his friends and family. Most of all he genuinely enjoyed people's company.
He is survived by his brother, Bill Hix of Iberia; sister, Nancy (Danny) Helton of Brinktown; four nieces, Heather (Stacy) Luttrell of Smithton, Madeleine (Ryan) Cochran of Iberia, Nikki (Matt) Rowden of Iberia, Sara (Champ) Herren of Seymore; three nephews, Mike (Kim) Hinkley of Lebannon, Matt (Samantha) Helton of Meta, and Sam (Sheena) Helton of Meta; sister-in-law, Sandy Hix of St. Charles; former wife, Judy DeKort of The Villages, Florida; special friends and caretakers, Mark Cramer and Anthony Giaquinto of Palm Springs; several great nieces, great nephews, two great-great-nephews; and a host of friends who he called family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, Herbert and Bessie Hix, Robert and Hattie Harrison; infant sister, Linda Hix; brother, Herb Hix; sister, Mary Pemberton and her husband Jimmy; and his life partner, Lee Lehman.
A private inurnment will be held at Gott Cemetery.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Gott Cemetery or to Tuscumbia Scholarship Fund at Miller R-3 School.
Arrangements are under the direction of Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia.
