Robert Morris Hopkins, age 90, of Iberia, passed away on Monday, April 22, 2019, at Eldon Nursing and Rehab. He was born in Iberia on July 27, 1928, son of the late Marion C. and Pearl Mae (Wall) Hopkins. On August 18, 1963, in Ashgrove, Robert married Harriett Faye West, who survives at their home.
Robert honorably served during the Korean War as a sergeant in the United States Army and was awarded the Purple Heart with three Bronze Camp Stars, UN Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and a Medical Badge.
Robert received two masters and a doctorate in English from the University of Missouri. He began his teaching career at Hawkeye and continued teaching English for 27 years at various schools including Linn State Technical College, Jefferson Jr. College, Southwest Missouri State College.
Robert had a love for flying so much so that he learned to fly before driving. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, Harriett. Throughout their life together, Robert and Harriett traveled to 11 countries.
In addition to his loving wife, Harriett, he is also survived by two cousins, Marge Adams of Iberia and Dorothy Child of California; and five nieces and nephews, Steven Windham, Rebecca Moore, Gregory Windham, Lorinda Renner, and Sara Dyuran.
Visitation will be held from 1:30 to 2 p.m. at Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia, with a graveside service with military honors immediately following at 2 p.m. at Iberia Cemetery, on Friday, April 26, 2019, with Willard Dyuran officiating.
