Roman J. Otto, age 81, of St. Elizabeth, died Tuesday, November 13, 2007, at his home. He was born in St. Anthony on August 4, 1926, son of Michael and Martha (Rehagen) Otto. On February 27, 1954, in St. Anthony, he was married to Christine Helen Wieberg, who survives at the home.
He was a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean Conflict. He farmed in the St. Anthony area all of his adult life and retired from the Independent Stave Mill in Eldon. He was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church.
Other survivors include two sons, John Otto and wife Karen of St. Elizabeth and Harold Otto and wife Diane of Wardsville; three daughters, Martha Bax and husband Paul of St. Elizabeth, Doris Bax and husband Melvin of St. Elizabeth, and Wanda Clark and husband Gary of Eldon; 12 grandchildren, Kristi Green and Ryan and Jake Otto, Adam and Abby Bax, Scott Bax and Tanya Lueckenotto, Jared, Tara, Brandon, and Tim Otto, and Tyler Clark; four great-grandchildren, Isaac Green, Macy Otto, Lilly Bax, and Garrett Lueckenotto; four brothers, Victor Otto of St. Thomas, Elias Otto of St. Anthony, Fred Otto of Eldon, and Charles Otto of St. Anthony, and three sisters, Rose Werdehausen of Wardsville, Cecilia Brand of St. Anthony, and Bernadine Groner of St. Thomas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Nicholas Clark; one grandson-in-law, Nick Libbert; two brothers, Emil Otto and Lawrence Otto; and one sister, Regina Herx.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 16, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in St. Anthony. Rev. Francis Stuart, OSB, will officiate. Interment will be in St. Anthony Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday at the St. Anthony Parish Hall in St. Anthony with a rosary at 7:00 p.m.
