Roman Stephen Plassmeyer, age 79, of St. Thomas, died Monday, November 27, 2006, at Villa Marie Skilled Nursing. He was born in Maries County on September 19, 1927, a son of the late Louis and Regina (Borgmeyer) Plassmeyer. On September 27, 1949, in St. Thomas, he was married to Geneva T. Schmidt who survives at the home.
Roman was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, St. Thomas Knights of Columbus and the National Farmers Organization. He lived and was a dairy farmer in St. Elizabeth for many years before retiring to St. Thomas. He was an after school care provider at St. Thomas the Apostle School and was a Sunday School teacher and past parish counsel member at St. Lawrence Church in St. Elizabeth.
Others who survive him include: three sons, Denis Plassmeyer and wife Martha of St. Elizabeth, Daniel Plassmeyer and wife Paula of Loose Creek and Dominic Plassmeyer and wife Mary of Meta; two daughters, Donna Luebbering and husband Harold of St. Thomas and Denise Plassmeyer of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin; nine grandchildren; one step-granddaughter; two great grandsons; three step-great grandchildren; one brother, Albert Plassmeyer and wife Florence of Meta; two sisters, Eleanor Wilde and Lorene Heckemeyer both of St. Elizabeth and several nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Two brothers-in-law, Frank Wilde and Fred Heckemeyer, also preceded him in death.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 1, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. Rev. Mark Porterfield will officiate. Interment with military honors will be in St. Thomas Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, November 30, at St. Thomas Knights of Columbus Hall with a Rosary at 4:00 p.m. and a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m.
