September 15, 1930 – June 25, 2018
Roselyn Wankum, age 87, of Meta, passed away on Monday, June 25, 2018, at SSM St. Mary's Hospital in Jefferson City. She was born in Folk on September 15, 1930, daughter of the late William and Marie (Recker) Stegeman. On October 1, 1955, in Folk, Roselyn married Wilbert Wankum Sr., who survives at the home.
Prior to getting married, Roselyn was a nanny for the Dr. Sugarbaker family in Jefferson City. Roselyn worked at Meta Elementary School for many years as a cook. She taught religion class at St. Cecilia Church for 23 years and was a volunteer at COMM-Unity Ambulance Building for many years. Roselyn was a dedicated St. Louis Cardinal baseball fan and loved to bake, garden, quilt, crotchet, and embroider. She was a member of the Over 50 club and St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Meta.
In addition to her loving husband, Wilbert, she is also survived by eight children, Vicki Brown (Lee) of Jefferson City, Doris Wankum Hoffman (Mike) of Columbia, Wilbert Wankum Jr. of Meta, Ronda Binkley (Dale) of Jefferson City, Joe Wankum (Pat) of Columbia, Kevin Wankum of Jefferson City, Pat Wankum (Cherie) of Babbtown, and Julia Harrison (Lance) of Jefferson City; 16 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Bernard Stegeman.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 29, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Meta with Fr. Jeremy Secrist officiating. Interment will be held in St. Cecilia Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., with a prayer service at 4:30, on Thursday, June 28, at the church.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Heart Association, St. Jude, or to the American Cancer Society.
