Obituary

Ruben Douglas "Doug" Duncan, age 75, of Dixon, passed away on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at his home.  He was born in Crocker, on January 6, 1949, son of the late Norman and Lena Faye (Morrow) Duncan.  On July 9, 1966, Doug was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Lana Sue Haley, who survives at their home.

Doug possessed a strong work ethic that he instilled in his children.  He enjoyed spending time outdoors fishing, working in his garden, and making his yard look flawless.  He stayed busy on the farm tending to the day-to-day chores of the land and took pleasure in riding horses with his family.  Doug was a faithful member of Mt. Gilead.

In addition to his wife, Lana Duncan, he is also survived by his daughter, Shelly (Jim) Veasman and two sons, Bubby (Starla) Duncan and Johnny (Mandy) Duncan.  Doug's grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his pride and joy.  He never called them by their given names, but rather by the nicknames he dubbed them at birth.  He is survived by ten grandchildren,  Chasidy, Haley "Punk", Hattie "ET", Hunter "Shorty", Paige "Skunk", Heidi "Toad", Hayden "Cowboy", Faith "Little Tree", Hope "Grasshopper", and Abby "Gertie"; 17 great-grandchildren, Inez "Caboose",  Ellie "Green Grass", Hadlie "Brown Eyes", Gianna, Sidney "Wolfie", Daxton "Cracker Dax", Benson "Chig", Duncan "Worm", Ben "Hawk", IV "Tonto", Tate "Snake", Lawson "Rat", Zach "Bull", Johnathan "Leach", Crue "Uno", Trenton "Rottweiler", Rhyett "Rubber Jaw", and one on the way; four siblings, Annie, Susan, Rita, and Jeff; sisters-in-law, Linda, Joann, Margaret, and Denise; and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three siblings, Possie, Donald, and David.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 (noon), with a memorial service immediately following at 12 (noon), on Monday, June 10, at Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia with Frank McGuire officiating.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Ellis Fischel Cancer Center.
